ORCA 2013 Promotion

The Styling Librarian

Promoting books and providing students a voice in selection is one of my passions as a school librarian. I consistently run three literacy judging programs at my school every year: for K-2nd grade: Patricia Gallagher Award program –http://www.oregonread.org/gallagheraward12.html , for 2nd-3rd grade: BCCCA- Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award programhttp://oasl.memberclicks.net/bccca-home, and for 4th-5th grade: ORCA- Oregon Reader’s Choice Awardhttp://www.olaweb.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=109508. Two of these wonderful programs, BCCCA and ORCA, are run by volunteers affiliated with Oregon Association of School Libraries and Oregon Library Association.

New titles were selected for 2013 recently for both BCCCA and ORCA which activates me into a little bit of a promotion machine. I enjoy creating resources for each program and then sharing them with colleagues around the state. I hate the idea of people starting from scratch vs. being able to share and use materials… These same colleagues are AMAZING also…
